The Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established as a key lab of State Ministry of Education in 2000. Our lab is led by Prof. Zixin Deng, and consists of 3 professors, two research fellow, 4 associate professors and over forty students. We are investigating bioactive secondary metabolites of microorganisms and  DNA sulphur modifications  by various state-of-the-art approaches involved in moleculare biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genomics and synthetic biology.

A growing effort is underway to reveal the genetics of microorganisms and subsequently make use of it to improve antibiotic production and bioactivity. At the same time, we aim to cultivate experts on microbial metabolism and make contribution to pharmaceutical industry and agricultural pest prevention.
